Not a very effective thing to translate to a home game when you have to worry about item balancing.Īlso, the items work on a completely different methodology than the home games. Naturally, this means most of the items have very similar functions, while the items you can pick from inventory are more powerful than the default ones. The items for each race are fixed unless the machine is equipped with the magnetic card reader for saving your progress, in which case you pick 3 items from your inventory to use every fourth race. There are over 100 items in-game, but you only get 3 per race. Jumping and drifiting are both difficult to do as you have to be able to manipulate the brake pedal to do so, which is once again something that you can't effectively translate to a home port. The third and fourth race of each circuit are just slightly-altered variants of the first and second races.

At most I can see them doing something similar on a handheld, but the machine operates like a timed photo booth upon sitting down to play. I don't know how they would replicate the NamCam system on a home console. One covers it up with a mask, one covers an opponent's screen with several copies of your avatar, one puts a mustache on the target's avatar, etc. There are also several items that effect the avatar in some way. This is used to see who hit who if you're playing against other humans. When you sit down in the chair and start playing, the game takes a photo of your face and uses it as an on-screen avatar.
